Thinking of you – postcards from India

MARK AND SARAH:  During our first 10 days in India, we have been very fortunate to meet some lovely people.  But our thoughts are always never far from home. So rather than bore you this weekend with more copy and further tails of “how to wash whilst travelling”, we have selected a number of photos from the clicks we have taken and hope they speak a thousand words. Please “click” on image to enlarge.

As our travels continue, doubtless we will have many more moments where we say “ah such and such a person would like this…” More photos for more of our friends as we come across them.. Happy weekend!  M and S.

Much relieved to read that you have not been involved in the rail accident on the Toy Train.

    • Thanks Frank for your thoughts…. I made reference in the blog about a sharp corner, which is only a couple of kms from the start in Kalka. Reading reports from the BBC it appears one lady was thrown by the impact of the collision on to the embankment through the door. I spent half the journey hanging out of the door, which shows how silly I was….hope the rest of the tour party are ok

    • Hi Shane, thanks for thinking of us. We are many miles away from the explosion which was terrible. This awful news at the same time as the tragedy on the Toy Train – Kalka to Shimla, which we were on only four days ago. Currently about to leave Mumbai for Goa. Hope all well in the land of Aus and you are still looking forward to seeing us… Sarah

Who would have thought it! Leyland still on the front of a bus after all this time. No doubt as it was built by Ashok it was built to last and and bears to resemblance to anything British Leyland ever made! The style of bodywork resembles a henhouse that Grandad Bailey erected!.

    Love to you both,

    Stuart

    Mark and Sarah –

Does this affect you. It is near Kalka, but your downward journey might be delayed?

    Warmest wishes,

    Barry and Linda

“At least two British tourists have been killed and at least five people are injured after a train derailed in northern India, officials have said.

The specially-chartered train, which had been organised to carry a group of 37 British tourists, was travelling to the Indian Himalayan town of Shimla.

The Kalka to Shimla mountain line is a Unesco world heritage site and popular tourist attraction”.

    • Hi Barry and Linda…. we came down from Shimla to Kalka two days a go. This is very sad news – a York based Tour Operator – Great Rail Journeys – who had chartered a train for their British guests. This was not a scheduled service. We are well thank you in Mumbai and heading for Goa tomorrow. Thank you for your concern. M and S
